I believe in showing my work rather than just talking about it. 

You should be LEERY OF DOG TRAINERS that don’t have EXTENSIVE VIDEOS of themselves training dogs or only show edited BEFORE AND AFTER CLIPS.

It isn’t uncommon for me to hear from a dog owner after they have already hired a dog trainer or even MULTIPLE TRAINERS. 

SOME DOG TRAINERS will make you believe that YOU need to become the “Dog Trainer” and you need to “Give your Dog a Job”. They may even convince you of this over a ZOOM CALL, instructing, “Repetition, Repetition – It Builds Muscle Memory”. 

THEN YOU HAVE THE TWO SIDES: 

One side saying, “Throw Treats on the Floor” and “Avoid Triggers”. 

On the other side they use an electric collar for everything and shut dogs down for anything that is deemed a “Problem Behavior”.

Neither of these sides is fully considering what makes these dogs tick. 

THE GENETIC MAKEUP of individual dogs and different breeds provide instincts that are often labeled as bad behavior. Suppressing these behaviors is a big mistake when they can be used and controlled with the special games we play. 

It’s important to identify which natural instincts a dog has so we can play a game that compliments who they are. 

Imagine having a HAPPY DOG that genuinely enjoys spending time with you and doing things together, without any manipulation or force involved. 

Unfortunately, many people in the dog training world misunderstand this concept and resort to using food as a means of manipulation.

WE MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST FIT FOR EACH OTHER

What would make me say that?

Dog training is a way for me to make a living, no doubt about it. But, in my experience of helping dogs living in shelters, with rescues, or in a family home – I HAVE NEVER TURNED DOWN WORKING WITH ANY DOG.

I WILL – TURN DOWN PEOPLE.  

It’s unrealistic to think that I can help every situation first of all. I have my own dogs, I don’t train others dogs for me… I TRAIN DOGS FOR YOU.

If you are stuck in your ways doing the same thing over and over, or harder and harder without results, you should probably take a step back. It’s OBVIOUS what you’re doing ISN’T WORKING.

Trying everything under the sun on your own, learning from YouTube dog trainers, and looking for short cuts could be a RECIPE FOR DISASTER. You aren’t a professional dog trainer.

Problem dog behaviors RARELY GO AWAY ON THEIR OWN. As a matter of fact they usually get worse. Thinking your puppy’s bad behavior will just vanish when they become bigger, stronger, and more confident IS PRETTY DUMB. 

Expecting individual dogs or dogs of a certain breed to be something they aren’t ISN’T INTELLIGENT either. Natural instincts are not a dog’s choice, they were selectively bred to do that.

It is likely I won’t work with you if you can’t find the TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR DOG’S TRAINING PROGRAM. Reinforcing behaviors during training does not make them last forever without continued maintenance.

I’VE HAD MANY CONVERSATIONS WITH POTENTIAL CLIENTS WHO SEEM EAGER AND MOTIVATED, BUT ULTIMATELY HAVE EXCUSES, TIME CONSTRAINTS, OR FINANCIAL REASONS TO NOT SCHEDULE OR HIRE A REAL DOG TRAINER.

Don’t waste my time or your own if you’re not ready. I’m trying to help SERIOUS DOG OWNERS, WHO WANT THE BEST for their dogs, and who are COMMITTED TO MAKING NECESSARY CHANGES.

Too many times I’VE SEEN DOGS REHOMED, RETURNED TO THE SHELTER, or worse. An estimated 127,071 dogs are euthanized for behavior problems EACH YEAR IN THE US (Patronek & Dodman 1999). Today, more dogs are entering shelters than are leaving. 

Don’t wait to hire a dog trainer until the problem becomes uncontrollable. In all honesty, it’s likely to be a big project if your dog has been performing some nuisance behavior for a long time.

If your dog has already been prescribed psychotropic medication for behavioral reasons we must have a goal to wean them off their dosage gradually.
